📖 the story…
Michael Stafford (aka Maverick Sabre) was born in London, but grew up in New Ross, Ireland 🇮🇪
As a teenager, he was mainly interested in hip hop. He would produce beats and rap on them.
Eventually he started singing because he needed hooks for his songs.
He began performing local gigs at 15 in Ireland, but struggled to make traction because of the limited ‘Irish Hip Hop’ scene….go figure!
It was in his teens that he was discovered by UK hip hop artist Plan B who encouraged him to move to London to pursue music
side note: I used to love Plan B. He did a concept album called “The defamation of strickland banks” which was a whole story about a guy unjustly sent to jail 🧼 It’s great.
Once in London, Plan B helped Sabre enter the local scene, and Sabre dropped his debut single, “Let Me Go” in 2011 (reaching #16 on the UK charts) 📈
His success grew after releasing his first two albums, “lonely are the brave”, and “Innerstanding”.
But for his third album (2019) he chose to release it independently 🎤
Since this release, Maverick Sabre has been a huge advocate for independent artists
He has mentored some of the most promising British artists including Jorja Smith (who he has multiple songs with Sabre)
Maverick has a new album dropping in 13 days - and it’s set to be 🔥
